At Touchstone, we understand that every child learns differently—and we are committed to providing a learning environment where students can thrive.

At Touchstone, our small class sizes (10 - 16 students) allow teachers to deeply understand each child’s learning profile and provide individualized attention. We deeply value relationships with students, which allows every student to be known and to know their teachers, along with all of the adults at Touchstone. As part of our daily teaching practice, we offer a wide range of classroom accommodations that benefit all students, including:

•   flexible and preferential seating

•   frequent movement breaks
•   multiple modalities (visual, verbal, kinesthetic)
•   graphic organizers
•   project- and portfolio-based assessments (rather than traditional grades and tests)

Our Director of Special Education collaborates closely with teachers, parents, and local public school districts to identify and support students with unique learning profiles. For neurodiverse students who require support beyond the typical classroom accommodations, specialized instruction can be arranged and may be scheduled before, during, or after the school day. Most commonly, this includes individualized literacy instruction, utilizing the Orton-Gillingham approach.

Touchstone's approach is grounded in partnership, with students, families, and specialists working together to create the best possible learning experience for each child. This team-based model ensures efficacy, consistency and responsiveness. The Director also facilitates communication with families and local school districts to help shape Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and service plans when needed.

Our goal is to provide students with the tools and support they need to build confidence, develop academic skills, and grow into independent learners.

Reach out to our Admissions Team with any specific questions to determine whether your child's needs might be a match for Touchstone.
