Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the school ask us for a gift in addition to tuition?
Independent schools have a long tradition of asking to contribute over and above the cost of tuition. Each year, Touchstone Community School depends on unrestricted gifts to the TCS Fund for enrichment programs and projects. Augmenting tuition with gifts to the TCS Fund also allows the school to keep tuition at a competitive rate with the surrounding community.
What is the TCS Fund?
The TCS Fund raises the balance of the operating budget to help subsidize the educational experience of every TCS student for the current school year. Every fall, all TCS families and friends are asked to give to the TCS Fund. Other independent schools refer to this fund as the Annual Fund or Annual Giving.
How much should we give to the TCS Fund?
We encourage everyone to give in the generous spirit that is so much a part of TCS. No gift is too small. Every contribution matters. In fact, when we apply for foundation grants, it is critical to show high levels of participation from all members of our community, including the board, parents, and alumni.
What does the TCS Fund support?
The TCS Fund enriches curricular materials, supplements the financial aid program which promotes economic diversity within our school, and provides funding for field trips. It provides professional development and training for faculty to ensure your children’s teachers continue to be informed and trained in mission-aligned pedagogies.
What are ways we can donate?
The TCS Fund accepts donations made by check, credit card, through stock, or bequests.

Can we make a gift for a specific purpose?
Of course! In addition to a TCS Fund gift that provides general support for the year's budget, many families want to direct a gift in support of a specific program or department. Gifts of this nature are received throughout the year.
Can my employer match my gift?
Yes. We accept matching contributions. Please ask your employer.
Is our gift tax-deductible?
All charitable gifts to the TCS Fund are tax deductible according to IRS regulations.
Can our gift be made anonymously?
Absolutely. When you send in your gift, just let us know that you would like to remain anonymous, and we will be happy to honor your request.
Will our gift be acknowledged publicly?
In the fall of 2026, Touchstone will publish the 2025-26 Annual Report, listing the names of those who contributed, but not the amount of each contribution. This publication also shares important information with the community regarding the impact of your giving.
When can we expect to be asked for a contribution to the TCS Fund?
During the fall, you will receive detailed information that will describe how contributions to the TCS Fund are used to enhance your child's educational experience. We hope you will make your gift before December 31st, but gifts can be made through June 30th. Throughout the winter, parent volunteers and TCS board members will make follow-up phone calls to encourage participation and answer questions.
