Early Childhood

We are excited to announce the addition of a two to three year old (2.9 - 3.11) class to our Early Childhood Program at Touchstone! The focus for our youngest students will be closely linked to our current early childhood program (students ages 4 - 6).

Learning in the Nest is largely play-based and developmentally appropriate. As children move through the program, we encourage and support their development and growing independence. In the Early Childhood Program we utilize an Emergent Curriculum which builds on the children’s interests. Teachers view their role as facilitators, setting up opportunities for creative and collaborative play. Children have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities including dramatic play, building, art, sensory play, music, and read alouds. As children make choices and engage in play, teachers thoughtfully observe them to determine areas to expand and explore further. A significant amount of time is spent learning outdoors, utilizing the natural features of our campus, including varied terrain, a wooded area with a small brook, a small frog pond, and a mud kitchen. Finally, a strong emphasis on supporting and building social and emotional skills ensures that our children develop self-regulation skills and learn to be contributing members of a larger community.

We invite you to join our joyful and caring community.
