Welcome to Eyes Wide 2012 Summer Enrichment Program at Touchstone Community School. We are very excited that you are interested in learning more about our summer programs.

Our mission is to provide participants with exciting opportunities to learn and to experience new things while having fun and making new friends. All programs are designed to offer positive experiences that encourage social, emotional, and physical growth.

Eyes Wide Summer Enrichment Program FAQs:

Q. What are the hours of the program?

All programs run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Extended care will be available at 7:30 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Q. Who can attend Eyes Wide Summer Enrichment Program?

The program is open for students and non-students of Touchstone Community School.  The program is coed for children and youths, ages 4 to 16.

Q. What is the difference between the Day and Enrichment Programs?

The Day Program is designed for children ages 4 to 12. Participants will travel from activity to activity with their counselors and explore different daily options led by expert instructors.

The Enrichment Program is designed for children ages 7 to 12. In the morning, under the guidance of experienced specialists, participants will explore their program of choice in depth. After lunch, they will join the daily schedule of the Day Program.

Q. What kind of supervision will be provided?

Staff is the key reason for a program to be successful. Our creative team is comprised of mature counselors who are college students over 18 years, Jr. Counselors under 18, and experienced educators, who will be implementing enrichment programs and electives. We offer mandatory staff orientation sessions, and we run background checks.

Our team of staff is enthusiastic, supportive, and committed to positively impacting children’s lives. I am happy to share that members of Touchstone’s outstanding faculty and staff work with us: Sharon Borg, Sheryl Harrow, Ed Harrow, Jody Stevens, and Dakota McHenry.

Q. What is the staff to child ratio, and age groups?

Ages 4 to 6 – 1:4
Ages 7-9 – 1:5
Ages 10-12 – 1:8
Ages 12 and up – 1:8

Q. What are the activities included in the Day Program?

Sports, outdoor games, arts and crafts, visual arts, performing arts, brain games, building with Legos, cooking, water games, water slides, nature, science, scavenger hunts, board games, free play, gardening, obstacles courses, fishing, and weekly themes that will be explored daily through fun and exciting activities.

Days with swimming:

10:40     Swim at Silver Lake

12:30     Activity 2 – Swim at Silver Lake

2:15       Activity 4 – Return to TCS and quiet time at TCS for ages 6 and under

Q. Is the daily schedule the same for Enrichment Programs?

Enrichment activities will happen in the morning from 9:10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In the afternoon, participants will join the Day Program schedule of activities.

Q. If my child is signed up for Enrichment Programs will he/she be able to swim?

Yes, participants will be swimming in the afternoon twice a week along with Day Program participants.

Q. How will my kids get to Silver Lake for swimming?

We will transport children on a school bus or a van, depending on the number of participants.

Q. What is the procedure for swimming?

Participants will be evaluated at the beginning of the week, so staff can become familiar with their abilities to swim. Spring Lake provides lifeguards. Participants are encouraged to bring water arm floats or vests if needed. All participants are required to wear the program T-shirt while in the water and during field trips.

Q. What happens on rainy days?

We will have fun in different ways! The program remains open and activities continue. If the weather is threatening—thunder and lighting conditions, all programs will happen indoors.

Q. When and how can I register?

Forms should be mailed with a check payable to Touchstone Community School.

Q. Is there a deadline to register?

Although registration will be open throughout the summer, Enrichment Programs have limited space.

Q. If I register now for a few weeks, will I be able register for additional weeks during the summer?

We will be accepting registrations during the summer. You can also sign up for more weeks after the program has started, however Enrichment Programs might be full. In order to staff accordingly, participants must register by 5:00p.m of the Wednesday before the week the program starts.

Q. What should my child bring daily?

Each participant should bring lunch, snacks, a bathing suit, towel, sun block, water bottle, hat, and sneakers. We have water available all day for water bottle refill. Participants staying for extended care will be provided with an additional snack. We do not refrigerate lunches, but lunch boxes will be kept indoors.
