Spanish

Español at Touchstone Community School

Spanish instruction at Touchstone follows the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning with its emphasis on the 5Cs: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons and Communities.

For the younger students, Spanish emphasizes basic vocabulary -- colors, days of the week, numbers, names of seasons, greetings and expressions of courtesy, etc. – as well as vocabulary from cultural events throughout the year, such as the Days of the Dead, Three Kings Day or El Cinco de Mayo.  Stories, songs, rhymes and games in Spanish strengthen listening and speaking skills.

For the older students, Touchstone Spanish reviews basic vocabulary and builds upon it while introducing grammatical concepts and a more in-depth view of Hispanic/Latin American cultures –history, folklore, traditions, music, food, celebrations and contemporary issues. Students are encouraged to speak, listen, read and compose in Spanish
