To compliment the Summer Adventures program, Touchstone is
offering a variety of enrichment
workshops for children ages 5 and up. These half-day and
full-day experiences will offer your child opportunities to
learn something new or to spend time with friends in an activity
they already enjoy.
Please note: If you are enrolling your child in a morning
and afternoon workshop in the same week, your child is invited
to bring lunch and enjoy a supervised hour at Touchstone at no
additional cost.
Be a Summer Scientist
Age: 5-8 Date: July 7-11, 2008
Max: 8 students
Time: 9 a.m. - 12 noon
Lead Instructor: Sharon Borg
Cost: $125
In this workshop, children will explore scientific phenomena
through interactive games and hands-on explorations.
Inquiries will include water discovery, bubbles and light,
building/engineering, and nature studies. The workshop
includes plenty of outdoor time and mess making, so leave your
fancy clothes at home. Science has never been so much fun.
A child attending this workshop may also enroll in the Summer
Adventures program for the afternoon, bring lunch, and stay for

Are You the Next Top Chef, Jr.?
Age: 5-9
Dates: July 14 - 18, 2008
Max: 10 students
Time: 9 a.m. – 12 noon
Lead Instructor: Lisa Walden
Cost: $125
In an easy and fun way, students will create tasty and healthy
treats such as shortbread, granola bars, muffins, scones, and
snicker doodles while learning cooking terms, how to measure,
and how to follow a recipe. While the goodies are baking,
students will have time for play, and then finish the morning by
sampling their own delicious creations. A child attending
this workshop may also enroll in the Summer Adventures program
for the afternoon, bring lunch, and stay for the full day.

Japanese Bookbinding and Illustration
Age: 10 and up

Do you want to create a sketchbook from scratch and fill it with your own drawings? Students will learn how to make their own book using traditional Japanese techniques. The second part of this course will introduce students into illustration while they create their own unique story within the pages of their book
Cool Arts & Crafts
Age: 5-9
Dates: July 21 - 25, 2008

In this workshop sure to spark creativity, projects will be fun
to make as well as use. Students will make super crafts
that they can take outside to play with, such as beanballs,
kites, and flutterballs. Students will work with a variety
of materials including fabric, clay, paper, paint, and the
old-time kids favorite, “junk.” A child attending this
workshop may also enroll in the Summer Adventures program for
the afternoon, bring lunch, and stay for the full day.

Landscape Drawing / Painting
Age: 10 and up

Learn to draw from life while enjoying your surroundings.
This class will teach students the importance of observational
drawing through contour, gesture, shading, crosshatch and more.
Weather permitting; we will be outside for every class learning
to draw what we see. Please bring sunscreen!
Tapping, Tossing and Rhyming Our Way
to Phonemic Awareness
Age: Entering Kindergarten and 1st Grade
Date: July 28 – August 1, 2008

Research has shown that phonemic awareness is the single best
predictor of reading and spelling achievement in first and
second grade. Systematic and explicit phoneme instruction
provides valuable benefits to emergent readers. Limited to
four students to provide a nurturing learning environment, this
workshop will offer an introduction to phonemes, or
reinforcement of what has already been taught, in a fun and
engaging way. We will sing, rhyme, and play on our journey
to improved phonemic awareness. A child attending this
workshop, may also enroll in the Summer Adventures afternoon
program, bring lunch, and stay for the full day. Please

Summer can be a great time to serve your tutoring needs.
There can be more scheduling flexibility for teachers and
students, and a more relaxed atmosphere that's conducive to
focusing on a particular area of study.
