Our
mission in part,
states:
“We envision communities working together to care for,
appreciate, and protect the earth and universe we inhabit.”
and
“The educational experience should reveal to all students their
unique qualities and capabilities and their responsibility to
put their uniqueness at the service of society and the earth.”
We use these elements of our mission as a lens for evaluating
and enhancing our programs, processes, and practices as they
related to environmental sustainability and to the integrated
teaching of environmental stewardship.
Children have an inherent love of nature, of animals, and of
being outdoors; at Touchstone, we honor this love within
children by designing our program and experiences to build upon
and enhance their knowledge of and sense of responsibility for
the natural world. It begins with things as simple as an hour of
recess time outdoors every day and grows into
projects that promote local activism and
extended
camping trips that give students the opportunity to learn as
much about themselves as they do about the world around them.
